UNCG Dining – All of Your Questions Answered

Knowing where to grab your next meal isn’t a usual concern for most incoming college students, but it quickly becomes one while adjusting to life at college.

While most first or second-year students opt for an on-campus meal plan to help with the transition to college, even some third and fourth-year students find that meal plans are a convenient, cost-effective way to plan meals while avoiding the hassle and expense of grocery shopping and cooking. To help students know what to expect from the meal plan offerings at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about dining options at UNCG.

What are the meal plan options at UNC Greensboro?

For the current 2022-2023 school year, UNC Greensboro offers ten different meal plan options for students to choose from. The selections for an individual student vary by year in school and the type of housing selected for the school year. Most meal plans include a mix of allocated meals in the dining halls plus a debit account balance that can be used for food purchases at other on-campus restaurants and retailers.

Here’s an overview of the terminology found within the meal plans at UNCG:

  • Meal Swipes
    • Per-meal swipes in the main dining hall on-campus
    • Valid for meals after 4 pm in select restaurants on-campus
    • Plans range from unlimited to a limited number of swipes per week/semester
  • Flex Dollars
    • Functions like a prepaid debit account with withdraws for each meal purchase
    • It can be used at either the dining halls or food retailers on-campus.
    • 1 Dining Dollar = $1
    • An account can be reloaded at any time, but most plans include a starting balance

How much are meal plans at UNCG?

Meal plans that include swipes at the dining hall range from $495 to $2,025 a semester, depending on the number of swipes available.

Some plans include no swipes in favor of just Flex Dollars or those with a limited number of swipes for upperclassmen and commuters who want the flexibility of having some meals on-campus. Students living in the residence halls must have a plan as part of their housing contract.

Fountain View at Moran Commons is the only dining hall on UNC Greensboro’s campus that accepts meal swipes.

Students who live in one of the residence halls on campus can register for a meal plan through the end of the first week of classes and are allowed one change to their meal plan per the email notification of when the change period opens.

Commuters and students living off-campus are also granted one change option to their meal plan, which isn’t offered until after the second week of classes and ends at the thesis filing deadline.
