The Ultimate Parking Guide for UNCG

With so many students coming from surrounding cities and towns in North Carolina, it’s not uncommon for those attending the University of North Carolina Greensboro to bring a car to college.

Cars are the easiest way to get around Greensboro, and shopping, errands, and groceries, and those living off-campus often rely on their cars to get to campus for classes and activities. But navigating the parking options on campus presents challenges to new and returning students. To help current and future University of North Carolina Greensboro students navigate the parking options available, here’s a rundown on what to expect when parking, bicycling or using the public transit options to navigate the UNC Greensboro campus.

The University of North Carolina Greensboro offers 17 different parking permits to students.

Parking permit options at UNC Greensboro

The University of North Carolina Greensboro offers 17 different permit options to students who need parking on-campus, either because they are in on-campus housing or wish to drive to campus for classes.

UNC Greensboro has different permit types for Residential Permits and Commuter Permits. Residential permits are only available for those students living on-campus in one of the university residence halls or apartment communities. Any student living in an off-campus apartment or with a family has to register for a commuter permit.

In addition to the residential vs. commuter designation, permits limit where a student driver can park. Some permits limit students to a specific lot – for example, the VB permit limits students to lots 1, 1A, 1C, or 50 – and others limit students to spaces on campus, such as the B permit, which allows students to park in any parking space labeled with a B 24 hours a day.

Cost of Parking at UNC Greensboro

The cost of parking permits at UNC Greensboro can vary considerably, ranging from $193 to $490 for an annual pass.

To determine which parking permit type is best for their needs, students should identify the lots or spaces closest to their housing or academic buildings. Those students willing to park further away from campus and utilize the park & ride shuttle service can save hundreds of dollars but need to plan their time accordingly since they won’t be able to park as close to class as other permit options. Bicycling on-campus at UNC Greensboro

The University of North Carolina Greensboro was the first campus in North Carolina to be recognized as a bicycle-friendly university because of its investment in biking infrastructure and services.

The University strongly encourages anyone who rides a bicycle on-campus to register it with the Transportation Office. Registration is free and can be done online. To register your bike, you’ll need to have the serial number (located under the bottom bracket of the bike) as well as the frame size and wheel size. Once registered, you’ll receive a sticker to place on your bike. This helps in the event a bike is lost or stolen and also gives the University a count of how many students, faculty, and staff are opting for biking to help boost bicycle support services.

To support cycling on campus, UNC Greensboro offers a variety of bike parking options for students, including indoor bike parking with shower facilities and bike racks outside of the residence halls and academic buildings.
